North Leeds Tournament

15 Jan 2006: Rideau Trail kilometres 113.0-114.0

Corv led the Nats to winning the B final in the North Leeds Midget Minor hockey tournament in Westport. DJ and then DW arrived in time to enjoy all of the second game and the final game.
Between the second game and the final, I drove up to Foley Mountain Conservation Area, parked and hiked west over the rocky and icy escarpment to Mountain Road.

Unlike Saturday during the Synergy Adventure Training snowshoe race near Low, Quebec, when the weather was rain and six degrees, Sunday's weather was bitterly cold (-21 wind chill), cold enough for the new balaclava and gloves inside mittens. For the first time this winter, I plugged in the block heater for the car Sunday night. The trail provided scenic views south overlooking Westport. The trail crosses a nearly frozen waterfall without a bridge. It was a challenge to ford the creek.

At the end of my outing, I found no snow on the side of Mountain Road and I could not continue much further before turning back. By this time, the sun had begun to set over Sand Lake.
