Subway Snowshoes

During a recent trip by rail to Kingston, I learned that the Rideau Trail journeys indoors: posing a challenge for my snowshoe adventure. Before the late '90s, the trail crossed the tracks on the Princess Street overpass. Perhaps I will take that route when the snow and I again visit Kingston.

The trail enters the VIA Rail passenger terminal in Kingston, proceeds down the stairs (or escalator), crosses below the two sets of tracks of the CNR Kingston subdivision and then climbs the stairs (or escalator) to the depot's second platform where the trail emerges from the building.

[VIA train 67: Montréal-Toronto]

On its journey to (or from) the shores of Lake Ontario, the trail is track side for about 200 metres. Having a non-stop express train passing a hiker at more than 75 miles per hour might make this segment of the hike exhilirating.
